Basement rough-in

You have a home with an unfinished basement and would like to take advantage of the unused space for recreation purposes or rental accommodations. You have a plan laid out, but you must satisfy one crucial detail: electricity.

The process for your electrical service rough-in is step-by-step, and at Integrity Electricians, we are experts in bringing your open space to life with electricity. To understand the requirements of the work, we will educate you on the needs for receptacles, lighting, and wiring for your project.

The Procedure, The Rough-in

Wiring must run along the walls, and receptacles must be installed at intervals to provide power to plugged devices, like home electronics. Light switches are installed, and the wiring isn’t hooked up to the panel, but they are ready to receive power when connected.

In The Beginning

When the project begins, it must align with a schematic plan determining where the power goes and how it gets there. If old wiring exists, it must be inspected for compatibility; if the project is a new installation, it does not. Before we start, we like to check if your current panel can support the additional electrical load and advise you if changes need to be made.

The Building Code

When electrical service work is done, it is governed by the building code, and the regulations determine what can be done where. As a group, we at Integrity Electricians have more than 10 years of experience working in the residential electricity sector and have the expertise to satisfy building codes and regulations.

Material For Installation

  • Wiring

Standard residential wiring is generally installed unless the wiring is required to handle a larger current to supply power to an appliance like a dryer. Also, your panel will need to be upgraded if unable to take the new electrical capacity. Still, residential panels can be scaled up to suit additional requirements in most instances.

  • Electrical Switches And Outlets

Switches and outlets must be installed with the building code and provincial electrical service regulations. When we install your rough-in, we will be mindful of the details to meet or exceed the regulations to establish a stress-free process.

DIYers Need Not Apply

A certified electrician should only install wiring, receptacles, and light switches. The mistake you make today could have cataclysmic consequences – like a fire or electrocution – so don’t try to rough in your basement alone.

For a few dollars, we at Integrity Electricians can provide a safe installation that will protect your home for years. Bring us your project, and we will advise you on what you need and why you need it.
