Office Space Rough-in

You’re getting set to open a new business, and your office must be electrified to conduct operations. Your ‘office’ is floor walls and a floor, certainly not ready to conduct business. The services of an electrician team will bring your office to life through a wiring rough-in to operate the lights, telephone and computer network or the equipment you need to do business.

There is a step-by-step process to bringing electricity to your facility, and we at Integrity Electricians will walk you through the process to improve your understanding of what you are buying and why you are buying it when you hire our company.

What Is A Rough-in?

To perform the task of a rough-in means the wiring has been run through the wall studs with the accompanying switches and receptacles seated in the areas of designation. The wiring is not connected to the breaker, nor are the receptacles or switches ready to receive power from the sources.

How it Begins

The rough-in is based on a plan or schematic that aligns with the power needs and where the power is to be routed to. If the process is new, we won’t need to inspect your old wiring and circuits to see if they can withstand the load. If this is an expansion, we will conduct a thorough inspection to determine if the electrical system can sustain the added power draw.

Building Codes, Why They Matter

As your office rough-in team, we are acutely aware of building codes because they will affect what we do and how we do it. Some of the details we are sensitive to include but aren’t limited to are the wire gauge limits, receptacle box-sizing, and wire routing and mounting.

Material We Will Install

  • Electrical Wiring

We install metal cladded wiring, which is commonly used wire in commercial installations. The reason for using MC is simple: it uses conductors embedded in a metal sheath and is not used as a ground.

  • Outlets Switch Boxes

When we install the outlet and switch boxes, they must meet capacity requirements, and the circuit must be safe per Ontario regulations.

  • Switches And Outlets

Based on the Ontario Building Code, we will be required to install specific switches and outlets as mandated by the regulations mentioned earlier. The need will depend on the type of equipment used and how much power it will require for safe operation for load management. Once the installation tasks are complete, it is time to connect the wiring to the panel to electrify your office, and you can continue with the completion of the development of the infrastructure to support your office.

This Is Not A DIY Project

Electricity, when not respected, is dangerous, no question about it. An office rough-in is not work for anybody who hasn’t completed an apprenticeship and isn’t licensed as an electrician. If you don’t understand electricity management, you need us at Integrity Electricians to install your rough-in that will meet and exceed the building code because safety is the first priority when managing electricity.
