Panel upgrade fused to breakers
When you bring in our company, Integrity Electricians, to upgrade your panel from fuses to breakers, know that you are making an excellent decision for your home’s electrical use. Replacing obsolete equipment with state-of-the-art equipment is a form of protection to prevent dangerous events from occurring.
The Process
There is a six-step process that doesn’t take long but must be done in sequence correctly to prevent anything untoward from happening.
-
Take The Fuses Out
First, we ensure no appliances are plugged in, then the main fuse is removed first, with other corresponding fuses to follow.
-
Wire Disconnection
We remove the two ‘hot’ and neutral wires from the connection points and label the wires for the breaker panel reconnection.
-
Remove The Main Panel
We are ready to detach the panel box from the wall mount in anticipation of the swap out. Any clamps and conduit connections are removed, and the screws holding the panel to the wall are removed.
-
Circuit Breaker Panel Installation
We can align the new breaker panel into the same spot with the old fuse panel removed. Some panels fit perfectly. Others we might have to drill new mounting holes for others, but the breaker panel will be installed where the old fuse panel was.
-
Cable Installation To The Main Breaker
First, we attach the ground wire to one of the two neutral bus bars after re-installing the conduit and wire clamps. With the ground connected, we attach the two ‘hot’ wires in the connection slots at the top of the breaker.
-
Resting, And Sub Breaker Installation
Now comes the tricky part, we must install sub-breakers for the ‘hot’ wires to individual circuit breaker terminals, then snap the breaker into one of the live hot bus bars. Then we activated the breakers to ensure that we were successful when power was coursing through the breaker.
Why Upgrade?
Unless you live in a brand new home, your old fuse panel has seen better days. And we recommend updating with a breaker panel based on technological advancements. We want to share some of the reasons a service upgrade could be beneficial for your home.
-
Overload
If your fuse box has had an electrical overload, it will require a replacement. If you have a breaker panel, that is not the case.
-
DIY Need Not Apply
Certainly, we all want to save money on home repairs and upgrades, but your electrical service is a place where you shouldn’t. If you mismatch the fuse with the connector, you can cause a house fire that starts at the fuse box.
-
High-Voltage
A circuit breaker can sustain much higher voltage for items you install in your home – like an electric vehicle charger.
