Service upgrade 100 amp to 200 amp

Electrical power is the next big, green thing. We need a reliable source of green power for our homes to keep all our electrical devices and appliances running at peak efficiency. Your home may often be underpowered for your needs, so you must upgrade the panel from 100 amps to 200 amps.

At Integrity Electricians, we can install your new panel to take better advantage and use more of the power that is supplied by the local utility company more efficiently. A 200-amp panel is larger than the standard 100-amp panel, providing circuits for additional items that draw power.

What Is Involved In A Panel Upgrade

Your electrical panel is the central switchboard for power distribution in your home. Your electrical panel earns its keep through the protection it provides for your home, circuits and appliances. When time passes, your panel will age, and its ability to protect your home will degrade.

We at Integrity Electricians provide professional service for panel installation, correctly assessing the right panel for the applications and the correct wiring for the panel to engage in protective services.

A Simple Process

Upgrading an electrical panel isn’t like launching the space shuttle; though some think it is that complicated, it really isn’t. You must notify your local utility provider of the upgrade, and in less than four weeks, you will be advised if you can have the upgrade.

Don’t be surprised if you are asked to assume the cost of the cable to the transformer upgrade for your new panel, and prices vary depending on the conditions to perform the work.

Step One, Power Disconnection/Reconnection

Once you have your panel approval in hand, the utility will advise you when they will disconnect the power for the new panel installation and then the reconnection upon Electrical Safety Authority approval. Keep in mind you will be without power for four to eight hours, so plan accordingly.

Step Two, ESA Permit

Once you have scheduled the disconnection, you must obtain an open permit and book an inspection after completing the panel swap. When the ESA has completed their inspection and approved the work, the utility company will reconnect the power.

Step Three, The Job

On the appointed day, a hydro crew will disconnect the power. We will make all the required upgrades to the panel itself, the meter base, the wires from the meter to the panel, the mast overhead service, and the grounding wire are part of the process.

Once we complete the work, the ESA inspector will review it and sign off on the certificate; then, the power is reconnected. After restoring the power (hydro company), we check the breakers, plugs, and lights to ensure they are operational.

Once the power is restored and you have your inspection certificate in hand, you can contact your home insurance company to advise of the upgrade and present the validation for it.
